First, thank you for reading, and welcome. This blog has been milling around in my brain for quite some time now. I’d see something on the news, or be thinking about a particular subject, and have a desire to not only document my thoughts, but share them with others and hopefully have others share with me how they felt on the same subject(s). I was finally pushed over the edge by my frustration with the government, and the direction our country seems to be headed as of late.  Now is the time, before things get worse, to get the ball rolling on real change. Not the supposed change our political leaders talk about all the time, real change.

Before you get all excited and think this site is about a peoples revolution, or class warfare, it goes deeper than that. This site will mostly be about ideas. What needs to be changed? What kind of change is needed? How can we make that change happen? I’ll be laying out answers to those questions, on a variety of topics, based on my own personal opinion. Some political, some religious, some neither, but instead just more examples of things about our current state of society that frustrates me to no end.

I will be sharing, bluntly, my feelings and opinions on these subjects. They are not intended to be taken personally, but some surely will be. I invite and encourage everyone who reads along, to comment, share your own opinions, even debate, with myself, or other posters, on the topics covered. However, I require that any such debate be civil. Don’t take an attack on a particular stance as an attack on you personally, and on the same note, don’t make things personal by attacking another person directly.

As an opener, rather than start with a particular subject, I wanted to talk a bit about myself so people will know where I’m coming from. I’ll share some of my basic beliefs, and we’ll go from there.

I’m 39 years old, married for almost 16 years. My wife and I have 3 children and exist solidly in the middle class. I currently live in the south, in a modest 3 bedroom brick house with my family, a dog and a cat. But I moved here from new england, where I lived for almost 20 years. I’ve seen and experienced life at both ends of the spectrum from a political and societal point of view, liberal, conservative, democratic, republican. My father is retired military, and I spent the first portion of my life moving every couple of years from one base to another, including living abroad in two other countries for several years. My parents divorced when I was a teen, which really isn’t unusual for people in my generation. I started working when I was 14, not because my family was poor, but just because I wanted money so I could buy the things I wanted. In my adult life, I’ve worked jobs with salaries that have ranged from borderline poverty levels to “upper”middle class. For the past 15 or so years, I’ve worked in the IT field within a wide variety of environments. From industrial to municipal, from commercial to medical, and along the way, I’ve gained some unique perspective into how wildly different things are run in various sectors.

My upbringing was Catholic, and while I am solidly Christian, I think my beliefs are more difficult to assign to any particular church. If you’d asked me a few years ago about my political beliefs, I would have told you I am a (fiscally) conservative republican. Nowadays, I believe I’d tell you the political party that most closely fits my beliefs is Libertarian. Yes, the legalize pot people. No, I don’t smoke it, and no, that’s not why I agree with their politics. The Libertarian party is primarily about minimizing the role of the government in the lives of the average American. For the most part, they stand for freedom, and for the original constitution as interpreted using common sense, not political judgement. The truth is though, I have lost all faith in our current government, the various political parties and our general political system as it exists today, at all levels, local, state and especially federal.

So that’s me. I’m not an extremist in any sense. I’m just a middle class family man who sees the country he loves swirling it’s way further and further into the toilet thanks to leadership that puts their own personal greed ahead of the best interest of the people they “serve”.

Thanks again for visiting and reading this blog. I’m already working on my first entry, and will have it along soon.

  1. Very well put Charlie. As a like-minded Libertarian I see people like us vilified daily for their belief in less government. The horror of fathers wanting to keep more of the money they EARNED to support our own families. I don't believe in the re-distribution of wealth. I am charitable by nature but I don't buy into forced philanthropy as that is only used to buy blocks of votes. Money is taken from us every week against our will and spent with complete disregard for yours or my thoughts as to where it should go. It isn't even just the tax out of my weekly check or the income tax filed at the beginning of each year. It's the excise tax, the gas tax, inheritance tax, property tax, sales tax, taxes on my cell and cable bill I can't even identity taxes, tolls, dog license fee, fishing permit fee, well... you get the idea. We are being fiscally raped at every turn by our own gov't. I JUST read that the state dept spent 70k on Obama's memoir to give out as gifts and to select libraries. I can think of thousands of ways that money could have been put to better use. In fact, this ridiculous gesture would be DEAD LAST on my list of ways to spend 70k. I don't think the fed gov't will be happy until every politician is wiping their ass with OUR money.

  2. "Denial and Isolation"; I believe you are in the first of five stages of Grief.
"GRIEF" is a response to loss, particularly to the loss of someone or something to which a bond was formed. Conventionally focused on the emotional response to loss, it has a physical, cognitive, behavioral, social, and philosophical dimensions too.
When you get to the "Anger" stage; it's likey your post will read more like a Revolutionist.
Good intro... looking forward to read others.
